Some shops close after Labor Day, yet many places in the Wisconsin Dells are still open. They are thriving and very welcoming to shoppers. Less tourist traffic leaves more room for the rest of us to sit back and leisurely do some looking and shopping.

We found it is the best time to visit the shops. Not only do you not have to put up with the hustle and bustle of the summer tourists, but most stores have sales and end-of-the-season deals.

2 ~ Outlets at The Dells Shopping

Open year-round, the Outlet Mall in the Wisconsin Dells offers shopping seven days a week at some of the most popular name-brand stores, such as Vera Bradley, Build a Bear, Old Navy, Kay Jeweler, and Polo Ralph Lauren, to name a few.

Shopping at the Outlet Mall in the Wisconsin Dells is fun. There is an inside central sidewalk and courtyard with a covered roof that goes the entire mall length. In the center is a giant fire pit that adds warmth and ambiance, making it perfect for shopping on a fall day.

Horseback riding is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and see all the Wisconsin Dell’s fall colors. The Wisconsin Dells has two stables nearby.

Canyon Creek Riding Stable – This stable offers a petting zoo, a riding stable, and Horse Drawn Carriage Tours through Lost Canyon. They do have fall and winter hours. Call first to verify hours.

Red Ridge Ranch – Red Ridge Ranch is about 20 miles from the Dells. In October, they offer fall activities, including trail rides, hayrides, Halloween activities, and a corn maze.

Wine tasting is very popular in Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Dells is home to several wineries and breweries. A wine tour or tasting is a great way to discover new blends and flavors. Some may even become your favorite. The Wisconsin Dells area is home to a few different wineries.

  • Broken Bottle Winery – The newest Wisconsin Dells addition is open year-round and offers wine tastings for $4
  • Fawn Creek Winery – Located just a short jaunt from the Dells, this winery offers 13 different wines to choose from and the opportunity to sample a wine slushy. The tastings are free of charge on a first-come, first-serve basis. The grounds are open, and you are free to wander to see the vineyards.
  • Baraboo Bluff Winery – This family-owned business is known for its friendly atmosphere and panoramic view of the Baraboo Bluffs. For $5, you can sample 9 of their wines.
  • Prairie Hawk Winery – This winery is open Thursday through Sunday – May through October. Check their site before heading out. Wine purchases are available for on-site pick-up only. They are not distributed.

This eerie, after-dark ghost tour takes you into an ancient canyon on the rocky bank of the Wisconsin River.

On the Ghost Boat “Journey to Haunted Canyon,” you’ll travel via a haunted boat to hear tales of lost spirits as the boat captain trolls the black waters of the Wisconsin River.

Once you arrive at Cold Water Canyon, you’ll leave the safety of your boat and head out on foot with only the moonlight as your guide. The sparse lanterns may not be enough to keep you from being afraid.
