October 31st is Halloween, All Hallows Eve, All Saints Eve, a day filled with candy, fun, costumes, and a little spookiness. Even as adults it’s a fun evening. All of us have different Halloween traditions when it come to Oct 31st. Some of us go trick-or-treating, attend harvest parties or have a little BOOing fun. Is there room to add a new tradition, or give a new twist to one of your Halloween traditions?
One of our Halloween traditions as a family is a game called BOOed. This game is played in the couple of weeks leading up to Halloween. We are taking that Halloween tradition and putting and adult twist on it, and call it BOOZed.
Would you rather be BOOzed or BOOed? I’m guessing that really depends on whether you have children in the house. Personally, Gary and I would rather be BOOzed, but we enjoy either game. After all, would you turn down chocolate? I have played the BOOed game in our neighborhood many times over the years when my kids were little.
Gary and I normally find ourselves on the road over holidays, yet every now and then we get to be at home and enjoy every minute of the holiday fun.
Currently, there are mostly adults in our neighborhood so this is the year we are putting a new twist on one of our Halloween traditions. I’m sure most of our neighbor’s won’t mind opening the door to a little BOOzey surprise.

Halloween Traditions of BOOing
If you are not familiar with the game BOOed, this is how it works. You fill a bucket, decorative bag, or basket with treats, trinkets, Halloween goodies, a copy of the BOOed note and the BOOed window sign. You can easily purchase all your item at your local dollar store.
I stopped at our local dollar store today and picked up the following items for two young kids in our neighborhood.
You take your bucket to one of your neighbors, set it on the doorstep, ring the doorbell, and either run away or hide and watch as they come to the door.
Once you have been BOOed it’s your turn. Choose a family or two in your neighborhood that does not have a “We’ve Been BOOed” sign on their door and put together a BOO basket geared towards that family. If you don’t know the family very well stick with general items, candy, soda, trinkets, or maybe even a Halloween DVD.
Once the basket is put together add a copy of the “You’ve Been BOOed” note and the “We’ve Been BOOed” door sign. Leave the basket at your neighbor’s door and watch the game continue. It’s fun to see all of the “We’ve Been BOOed” signs popping up on doors all over your neighborhood.
Adult Halloween Traditions of BOOZing
BOOZing your neighbors will be very much like BOOing them, with an adult spin. You leave them alcohol. Any kind of alcohol will do, just gear it towards the season ~ Seasonal Beer, Halloween Wine,or Hard Cider. Visit your local store see what fun ideas you can come up with.
If you like, add some fun Halloween items ~ Halloween wine glasses, cork screw, bottle topper, beer glasses, Halloween ice cube trays or even a few little munchies to go with their BOOZey treat.
Package everything up, adding a copy of the “You’ve Been BOOZed” note and the “We’ve Been BOOZed”door sign, deliver the BOOZey treats to your adult neighbor, when they are home, hide and watch as they open the door. Make sure you watch until an adult collects the BOOZey basket. Plus as an added bonus maybe they’ll be in a sharing mood.
While traveling during one Halloween week we were so impressed with the staff at the hotel we were staying at, that we put together a modified Halloween BOOZey basket and left it at the front desk for all of the staff to enjoy. They never did figure out where it came from. It was fun to see the “We’ve Been BOOZed” sign on the front desk and hear the staff talk about their basket.
This may be a time when you want to use an non-alcoholic beverage in your BOOZed basket. Sparkling cider is a great alternative.
This is such a fun game and can be played at home, at work or even while traveling. Have fun with it, what other ways can you think of to use your BOOed or BOOZey basket? Let us know, we’d like to find other ways to play this game.
Download a copy of all of our BOOed and BOOZing signs, letters and tags at the end of the post.
